econ doesn't have too good of career prospects, despite involving math stuff and not a whole lot of people doing it

and i'm also terrible at math, so i will likely never be a good enough programmer to actually amount to anything, without even considering whether i pass my classes or not

im actually a pretty good writer, if i do say so myself, and it's one of the few subjects i enjoy. that, and music and art.
but none of the things I enjoy doing are marketable.

I was good at it, but I found that constantly ingrating yourself to sources is difficult and saps your energy. And I'm not much for self promotion or motivation every day so any other writing goes out the window. So I'm saying if you like to write, don't think of it as a career fallback unless you're extroverted. Meanwhile, my best friend majored in econ and is about to be an investment manager so is doing pretty well. I wouldn't worry much about your major.

anyway, maybe you're right about econ. I have heard conflicting reports on it's viability as a career. as with your friend, I've heard that people usually go into careers tangentially related to econ if they want to make money.

My time is taken up a lot and there's a lot of stupid rules I have to follow. Free education/healthcare is totes worth it though.

Coding isn't the only IT career anon. Here's a pro-tip for debt free when you're not poor enough to get a free ride.
Join the military and do your four years in a field (job or MOS) that interests you that also has a job market need in the civilian world. Get out and use your GI Bill to go to a Yellow Ribbon Program school. Anything the GI Bill doesn't cover for tuition and class fees (except books aren't covered but you get a stipend) is picked up by the YRP.
Thus you go to college all while only having to put clothes on your back, a TI-86 in your bag and pay for books out of the stipend.
You get a housing allowance for the zip code you live in/your school is in.

When you're done you've got 3-4 years of experience with training already plus a degree to back it up even more and open up senior positions down the line.

I did the Army as a 25B (IT Spec.) And did 6 years, got certifications and training, for out, got a contractor position making $61k/yr at 26 years old and am going to college for free.
It's one of the most practical ways to do it. Just don't do a meme career like HR specialist or infantry if you want a career that will make bank without you needing to deploy to places that we aren't in as a civilian contracted with Gen Fun. Or Academic, where you'll only get hired on if you were in SOF as a SEAL or MARSOC or SF or Ranger or CAG etc.

If you want a career where you can make a comfy AF living stateside, do a technical trade that has a demand here for it.
