The cities are pretty liberal but the countryside has a higher concentration of hicks than anywhere else in the South.

Downtown raleigh has some great places for food. My top 3 recomendations are Chuck's, Beasley's, and the Flying Saucer. The History museum and the natural science museums are pretty cool too, just go during a school day so you miss the kids.
