Was wondering what markers people are using to mark tubes/flasks/bottles in the lab which are resistant to 80% ethanol. Have looked at the lab specific markers which cost up to $60 but there has to be a cheaper alternative?

I used to use crayons. Is this to claim ownership of glassware or to label?

Crayons are damn near impossible to get rid off but pencil works well on the rough white glass areas. You can also scratch your name on too.
what you're looking for is pigment ink (as opposed to dye), most fiber tipped art pen type things should work, like the Sakura Pigma

actually now that I think about it, I dunno if you'd be able to easily clean that off

have you tried acetone?

For pencil, nothing but rubbing got rid of it. There were flasks marked in pencil from before I arrived and remained after I graduated

Wouldn't matter for plastic stuff that will end up going in the bin in the end but needs to be organised while in use (cell cultures, falcon tubes, eppendorf tubes etc)
