Any post university learners here?
I think I am just realising the huge information overload and how ignorance is the best strategy. I feel guilty for not going through entire textbooks but it's not viable.
I am about halfway through SICP. Of the 5 chapters, the first 3 is standard stuff that is covered in all intro style works. The last 2 chapters are weird stuff that might be worth doing. The book is overjoyed but it's a lot better than doing nothing. I'm not sure why programming books need to be hyped up when the activity itself requires rigour or else your programs don't work.
I also want to have a better grasp of typical university maths that are found in engineering or physics courses, just basic stuff. I am currently using a comprehensive maths for physics and engineering textbook but I have accepted that it is more of a reference book. I'm going to find specialised textbooks for stuff like linear algebra and statistics.
One worry I have is whether it's even worth learning applied maths if it's not "rigorous" or super formal.
I have also accepted that learning isn't something that you do a finite amount of an then use it. I will always feel guilty for not knowing enough. One of the strengths of university courses is that they make you ignore huge amounts of stuff. Courses based around SICP don't make you do huge numbers of exercises.
You should start a blog, mate.
