can a biology nerd explain hair growth to me. So for years my arm hair has been the same length, like 1.5cm or so.
I recently shaved my arm for a tattoo and 3 weeks later its already grown back almost 1cm. How is this possible if your body doesnt know when the hair has been cut.
Ive tried researching and found out that it grows in stages but it doesnt make sense, someone help

its not the hair, i just dont like when i dont understand how something works
Are you sure you did your measurements right? That's pretty long arm hair.

i just stretched out the hair on my other arm and its about 1.5cm, around that i think

So your method is flawed. The hair on your other arm has been growing this whole time so it's not indicative of the length of your arm hair when you shaved it three weeks ago.

I think its clear that this was his first time shaving arm hair.
+- 3 weeks is insignificant in the span of 20+ years
It's a little bit more simple than that. It's not that your hair "stop growing", but it get's to a point where it starts falling and growing at a rate where it "stays" the same length.
Arm hair is weaker, so when it gets to a certain length it starts falling a lot. The hair in your scalp on the other hand is "stronger" so before falling like hell it gets a good length.

Maybe your body does indeed know when you shave your arm hair, indirectly. By shaving the arm hair he's exposed a patch of his skin to external stimuli such as sunlight and extremes of heat and cold. This may have prompted OP's body to grow hair at a faster rate than normal.
>OP is pretty hairy desu

yes thats right, ive never shaved my left arms hair in my 22 years of living and its about 1.5cm where my right arm has grown almost 1cm in 3 weeks.

when you say falling do you mean falling out? and when you say when arm hair gets to a certain length, that implys the body knows how long the hair is, when everything ive read says your body doesnt know when your hair is cut so how would it know the length
from what ive gathered your arm hair stays the same length because it does indeed fall out, which is weird because ive never seen an arm hair randomly like i do an actual head hair or an eyelash etc

Yes, I mean falling out. And what I meant is that the hair get's heavy enough so your body can't hold it anymore.
