my parents want me to become a GP. what am i in for?

You're in for a life of hell. Let's assume you actually want to be a GP yourself and genuinely want to help people. You will soon find out it's all politics and bullshit. You will be a slave to insurance companies and will never be able to effectively treat/help someone because the only thing the insurance company will let the patient have done is a fucking x-ray because mri's etc. are too expensive.

Thus, in the end you have to make a decision. Send the patient elsewhere, or "treat" them knowing you won't fully know whats wrong with them because if you send were them away your practice will go under. In the end it's all a business.
