What. Am I missing something or isn't the order irrelevant?

I guess it's more catchy than FILO

-how do i multiply these two polynomials?
--repeated application of the distributive and associative properties
-gee, thanks
i wrote this sarcastically but i just realize that a lot of kids might not even know this is what they're doing. maybe we should teach it that way

Any adult who spoke in this way would have to be clinical.

Do you mean actually vocalizing "WTF", or just saying "What the fuck"?

But "Cartesian Product" is an ugly term that tells you nothing about what you're actually doing. And don't tell me "cross multiply is wrong, you can only use cross product." Product is the result, multiplication is the action.
"You can get Q by cross-multiplying N with itself." What's wrong with this? How would YOU veribify it?

Not sure about OP, but in local (not english, using direct translation) high schools "cross multiply" means multiplying the equation a/b=c/d by bd.

http://www.wikihow.com/Cross-Multiply
The people OP refers to use the term as a verb for the above process.

I'm American, and cross-multiply means the same thing in our high schools.

Only in america would they make up a stupid acronym instead of just teaching the distributive law.
