It does not say that Italy is more productive than Japan. It says Italy is more productive per hour worked. I've heard the japanese often try to be first in the workplace and last to leave. Probably not very efficient compared to leaving work as soon as all work is done for the day.

Norway on that list is high in productive because of their oil. Luxembourgh because of the huge banking sector. We can't really make other countries copy those.

Maybe look at Pooland and Germany and figure out why there's a 2.5 fold difference between them. They are neighbours and neither has any oil money. Also lots of population so random effects doesn't apply to them as much as with small countries.

If you had a more powerful/efficient means of energy production

energy could be used to make additional fuels for transportation, desalination, and more
transportation and resource extraction/processing costs would go down
it would be cheaper to build things like greenhouses
and have the water to grow things
and you could use UV lamps instead of the sun for more growth
and so on and so on
and with the surplus you could get more computers together
and a large parallel computing network could be made
and you could power all the computers to do more science research
and you could use the additional energy to make space more accessible
and find new sources of raw materials

Seems like to me, you could increase productivity with more science and technology.

Abolish capitalism and use strong police force promote more productive work culture for the remaining population.
