I'm going to use three pairs of sunglasses to view the final phase of the solar eclipse. There will be 15% of the Sun still showing when this occurs because shitty location + university. Will I go blind? (2 minute duration)
yes, you will go blind. your sunglasses will cut the light down by about 15-fold. you need a filter that cuts the light down by 500,000-fold.
enjoy your legal blindness

Hey OP here, this is not the reaffirming answer that I desired.

You need a filter that cuts out 99.997% of incoming light. You risk burning out the cells in your fovea. You might wake up tomorrow being able to see nothing but broad fuzzy shapes.
Do. Not. Fuck. Around. With. The. Sun.
YOU WONT FEEL YOUR RETINA BEING BURNED, IT CANNOT SEND PAIN SIGNALS.

>would i know already if i damaged my eyes?
hard to say, but probably not
Uhh OP here again; I stared at it and literally no damage at the moment, hours afterwards. Checkmate pussies, stick to this nerd board.

Symptoms will show up over the next 12+ hours if you did damage your eyes.
If your vision blurs a bit, or you have more trouble than usual reading small text. Or there is a whiteish spot in the center of your vision, then you likely burned your eyes.
You are probably OK, but if any of those symptoms appear over the next 12 hours and persist for more than a day then there is likely some permanent damage
