If you don't have a ruler, a rubber band, and a hammer in your house for some reason, you can do something similar with two forks (or a fork and a spoon) and a toothpick/match/paperclip/whatever
the trick is that the center of balance for the entire object is what matters, as long as they're firmly attacked to each other
