How long can I safely look at a 60% eclipse with a shade 11 welder's helmet?

Who the hell cares about the gayclipse?
There are eclipses every fucking minute and every time they say it's going to be the last in 20 billion years.

Don't do it. 60% of the sun's rays will still fuck you up
I stared at the sun for a minute or so on a cloudy day a few years ago, thinking it was the moon- lucky enough to escape with a temporary burning sensation in my eyes.
However, I was (and still am :) young and extremely lucky. I will not risk my eyes like that again. If I had been out of my prime, I might have irreparably damaged my vision.
11 is not dark enough. Don't risk it. Prepare for the one in 2024
I think it's possible to reach higher shades by stacking filters though, look into that (on reputable sites, not 4chan of all places)

shade 12 or higher
Any welding helmet around 12-14 will work just fine. As a former welder, we used to stare at the sun quite a bit for shits and giggles.
DO NOT however use glasses intended for use with an oxyacetylene torch. Those are around shade 5, and will not come anywhere close to protecting your eyes.

I guess we'll find out how long you can look when they analyze all the casualties from the fake glasses flooding the market.

You can look at with your bare eyes for like 5 seconds just don't stare at it like a sperg for half a minute and not expect burnt retinas.

This. Its just as bright as the normal sun but its an optical illusion that makes it look less bright. You can stare at it as long as you want for the totality though. Just glance and look away before that.

Does this mean I can use these $1 glasses instead of more expensive goggles for arc welding?

There is a total eclipse somewhere on earth every day, faggot.

Eclipses (all kinds) happen at least twice a year, sometimes up to 5 times a year.
This is /sci/, you could at least try to be right
so many murricans will pop their eyeballs because they use binoculars and DSLRs , directly staring at the sun, or just some janky nonprotective eclipse shades they fabricobbled themselves or bought from that brown skinned guy.

If you use 2x shade 10 glasses stacked, how does that add up? Not 20 I would guess.

Does this definition give the U.S. shade number?

Until your eyes burn out, you go blind and then turn gay.

>t. bitter person who lives too far away from any eclipse path
Sour Grapes

Forever. I have that exact helmet.
I watched Mercury cross the sun a few years back just by holding an old school lens

Shade1 + shade2 - 1
Or so I hear
