A shaved girl reveals only a little if she's just standing naked, or going about her business. Pubic hair, though, can be visible and suggestive while the vulva is mostly hidden. It also signals sexual maturity.
Many cultures have encouraged women to shave fully, such as Islamic culture, and Tahitian culture. Opposite ends of the spectrum as far as expectations of modesty are concerned. Shaving is associated with purity, though, in either case.
Christian women mostly didn't shave their pubic hair until contemporary times. Wearing a bikini requires a cut. Porn moved from women with natural pubic hair, to women completely shaved. Maybe due to laws prohibiting child porn.
So we know a shaved woman on the internet is sexually mature. She may also display herself in clearly sexually suggestive ways. Hence, perhaps, a preference for shaved girls in porn. Against evolution.

People, in general, didn't shave themselves until modern times. Want to know why? Most cultures didn't develop waxing, and most people, male or female, were not keen to go after anything down there with a straight razor. Which beyond certain other tools that existed in certain times for a minority of the population, was the only readily accessible way to do it.
I can appreciate the aesthetic of a shaved woman. A lot of pussies are quite beautiful regardless, and pubic hair sometimes obscures that if around and on the vulva. Smooth skin can be more pleasing. But ultimately don't really care, and prefer women with some pubic hair.
Its function is likely less visual signalling, and more trapping / distribution of pheromones, immune components, and beneficial organisms. All of which inhibit translocation eg of bacteria from the anus to the vagina. Modern use of spermicide, glycerin containing lubrication, douching, and non-pH balanced soaps make these problems worse.
