What does pressure mean in thermodynamics?

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Does pressure mean the pressure OF a fluid?

Or does it mean the pressure ON a fluid?

The rule is that if T > Tsaturation, then a substance is a superheated vapor, which makes sense.

The other rule is that if P < Psaturation, then the substance is a superheated vapor.

This means that P is the the pressure being exerted on the fluid by its environment, right?

Its the same thing.

If pressure is exerted on a fluid by the environment, the fluid is pressurized.

It's the same thing.

How is it the same thing?

Isn't the boiling point defined as when vapor pressure = external pressure?

This implies that external, or environmental pressure is constantly "pushing down" on the substance, trying to make it more liquid or more solid.

It's the same thing. Remember the Vapor pressure depends on the substance and the temperature. The actual pressure is measurable and depends on the environment.

You're overthinking it, anon.

it is, and for a pool of water for example, the external source of pressure is the atmosphere at the surface, and the atmosphere + whatever portion of water up to the depth at which you're measuring pressure
