>"Aliens aren't real"

How is this still a position in 2017?

It's about equivalent to flat earth in legitimacy.

Aliens are definitely fucking out there, if you don't believe there is life somewhere away from Earth then it is safe to conclude that you are skeptic for the sake of being edgy and are refusing to educate yourself on concepts that you cannot understand.

Saying that alien life has visited Earth, and hell even groomed our civilisations or that we will have some sort of "Contact Doomsday" scenario is pretty retarded. I'd even go as far to say hat believing in Drake's equation that supposedly proves that there are at least 50 sentient alien races that communicate with each other is a bit on the retarded "I want to believe" side without any further evidence (even if it is true). For fuck's sake, it isn't even too stupid to say, "Aliens are out there, but we're the smartest/none of them are sentient," due to the Fermi paradox.

Here's a thought: Our radio signals.
Humanity's radio signals reach out about 100 light years (definitely a little less, but the exact number fails to come to mind) and we've always said that that's too short for an alien to pick up on us due to the proximity of other stars.

But how come we can't hear the radio signals of old advanced alien civilisations? Maybe ours only go out about 100 light years because they've only been around for that long, but if there is an alien race with the equipment where jumping from star to star doesn't take thousands of years and isn't impractical, they've likely been around for a very long time. Thus, we should be able to constantly pick up on their thousands of years old radio chatter from before they ever even took to space. Issue is, we don't. Why not?

We don't know the conditions or range of abiogenesis and we have no evidence that any instance of it exists outside of our own.

For now, the answer is "unknown", with no valid indicators for or against. Resolutely believing they do not exist and resolutely believing that they do, are equally retarded and unscientific.
>>
>>9082042
"Alien" does not imply technologically advanced and a utiliser of radio signals.
>>
>>9082042
They never invented radio communication.
>>
>>9082042
you're underestimating how dust and distance weaken radio signals, it's quite hopeless to pick up signals once you get into the 10k+ ly range
>>
>>9082042
Radio is weak.
Advanced civ would use lasers to communicate since the signals wouldn't weaken with distance.

Why should we believe in aliens when we haven't seen them yet?
If aliens are "definitely" out there but we haven't seen them yet then probably some of the assumptions (Drake) that lead you to think they're out there are wrong. And the longer we go without seeing aliens the wronger those assumptions are.

Well, excepting sources of intergalactic note.

A thought bubble which amuses me from time to time is the potential of intelligent origin of such phenomena as quasars.

Busy rooting around for a signal nearly lost in the noise, when it's on the opposite end of the signal/noise spectrum. The typical kind of stupidity you'd expect from humans.

"Seeing is Believing"

Ok lets look at this logically, with billions upon billions of galaxies with trillions of stars with trillions of planets orbiting them, are you so up your own ass that you can say without a doubt that no aliens in this area that is too big for our human minds to comprehend?

Just using basic logic we can deduce that the chances of there being life is much much higher than us being the only living things in the universe, dumbass.

The argument isn't even if aliens exist anymore, it's if they have visited us and/or walk among us that cause the most relevant debate.

Despite strong arguments for the existence of life elsewhere in the universe, there is no experimental evidence yet. All a well trained scientist could say is that it is plausible, but there is insufficient evidence to date; more experimentation is required.
