So whatever happened to this thing? Was it confirmed? Debunked as fake?

I haven't heard anything lately at all.
>>
>>9075158
Memed.

Some anon pointed out that publishing science is all about prestige, how to get included in Nature, etc.

less than 0.5% experiments researchers conduct are repeats of previous experiments (because it's hard to get published if you just check someone's math).

So going by that logic, any attention is better than no attention.

That's where the troll comes in. A troll won the US presidency, and a troll """""invented""""" the EM drive.

And for whoever created this churchbell with a microwave soldered to it, it got them the attention they craved.
>>
>>9075238
You sound like fake news. Just say what actually happened, faggot. That it was tested in a vacuum and nothing happened. Nobody believes it works at this point.

It's true.

Like the black holes in my time machine.
>>
I thought they were gonna test one in space?
>>

They are. The cubesat hasn't gone up yet, though. Once it does we'll know once and for all whether it's all a meme or not.

Seems simple enough that practically any large uni could make one to play with themselves. The thing is, no one really has any confidence in finding thrust and there's always something else that seems more useful to be spending time and money on.
>>

>Seems simple enough that practically any large uni could make one to play with themselves.
It is and they have.

One of the big points to take away from this is that the """thrust""" is independent of the orientation of the drive.
>>

You mean this one right?

Shitposting at its finest

>One of the big points to take away from this is that the """thrust""" is independent of the orientation of the drive.

that doesn't sound too promising.
>>
>>9077110
Why not?
It's to be expected from something that works by exploiting the em-waves around everything, right?
What's fundamental about the Electro and Magnetic parts of ElectroMagnetic waves?
E and B are perpendicular to both one another, and to the velocity of the particle producing them.
>>
I see two options:
1. Its fake/hoax and it will show up time to time
2. Its working, and got clasified. Even chcinese were testing it on satelite and sudenlly no info.

So its was complete failure and everyone are ashamed to addmit getting trolled or it was sucesfull and anyone who made it wants to keep tech for themselves.

Personaly I think its in line of those cold fusion hoax made in backyard.
>>
I keep telling you, unless you can eventually observe it in commercial use it's a hoax.

because the whole supposed explanation as to why it produced thrust is due to the asymmetrical design of the container, being wider on one end than the other. if the thrust is the same regardless of the orientation of the thicker end, than the whole explanation and basis for it theoretically working becomes bullshit.
>>
Of course it's fucking fake you fucking retard
I don't know jack shit about the physics supposedly involved in it but even I can tell it's a load of bull
>>
>>9077529
Is it? Or is it like saying that it's bullshit that every ray that passes through a convex reflector's focal point leaves traveling parallel to its optic axis?

I honestly do not know enough about this mEMe drive. I'm sincerely curious about how it's supposed to work.
>>
>>9078065
>Is it?
Yes.
>>
>>9077529
There's still asymmetries in the drive assembly that make the waves bounce around differently.

>>9078003
That's why you don't know anything. In 10 years or more we'll get to the bottom of this and have working propulsion drives after we test out everything and take everything apart.

>>
>>9078202
Kek no.
>>
>>9078206
If you run AC through a wire that makes an electromagnetic wave at that frequency. What if you don't have a symmetric wave phase, vertically and/or horizontally?

"The idea is to make an AC alternation across a wire antenna, with the current going down one end at high voltage within 1/3,000,000,000 seconds, and a lower voltage going the other way after that interval, in 1/30,000,000 seconds, the idea being to create an electromagnetic wave with a net amplitude bias in one direction."

>>
"As you can see in this c++ app here https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2Wuir9-DSiURFJ2SDdqclNsXzQ/view?usp=drivesdk
When you get to "t7" the "ge" gravitational energy and "ke" kinetic energy are greater than the values at "t0", so in what sense are they conserved, along with electric energy, if they are potentially unlimited, or how can you say how much potential energy there is without knowing the future trajectory."
>>
>>9078202
>There's still asymmetries in the drive assembly that make the waves bounce around differently.
yeah, but do you not see the issue with the thrust direction being identical regardless of the orientation of the structural asymmetries? That's like taking a rocket, turning it 90 degrees on its side, and observing it still flies upwards the same as before.

NO, I'M THE ORIGINAL COLBERT.

PUT THIS EXTRA SCOOP DOWN BLUMPF AND NO ONE GETS HURT!!!
>>
>>9079184
Other experiments with other assemblies observed the exact opposite, with the thruster being directed correctly, I believe I read in the NASA paper or maybe another. Also another YouTube video shows thrust directed down, with the cavity.

https://www.reddit.com/r/EmDrive/comments/5fhg46/force_direction_reverses_with_and_without/
>>
>>9079184
Maybe the interpretation of the statements in the paper is incorrect, or else there was an error in the assembly of the measuring equipment in the experiment.
>>
>>9079184
Changing a dielectric changes the force and direction. So it's just saying we don't understand something, not that it's heat expansion or something, right? Is there anything underneath the dieletric or is the dielectric what is absorbing or reflecting the EM waves? Why do they need a dielectric? Are they generating EM waves using a dielectric or a magnetron? I'm not that deep in electronics.
>>
>>9077440
>2. Its working, and got clasified. Even chcinese were testing it on satelite and sudenlly no info.
unlikely. If it actually worked then it would just be quiet testing followed by sales to satellite makers who don't really give a shit what the public thinks.

At best you'll have a popsci article about a nasa probe that is going to use it because it is slightly better than an ion drive over a 10yr period.

most likely it doesn't work and people forget about it.
>>
>>9079184
EM radiation move things after all, what do you think it is doing, unless you believe in QM and no semi-classical orbits?
>>
>>9078003
quantum vacuum drives are a serious subject.

The simple fact that diodes and rectifiers exist should clue you in that asymmetry is possible in physics. The part where you think you're an expert with less than a highschool grasp of physics shows you are a brainlet.

There is a difference in being skeptical at claims and "knowing" that something is impossible. Unfortunately for you the EM drive probably doesn't work so you won't learn any lessons.
>>
>>9079342
Solar sails have been tested successfully in orbit. Proven to work exactly as expected. The theory with these resonant devices is to have asymmetric radiation pressure.
>>
>>9079363
Almost but the radiation pressure equation doesn't account for the magnitude of thrust generated.

Where I've seen this guy before?
>>
>>9077134

Today a bitch, texting, rammed her SUV into car letting pass a pedestrian.
Police escorted the dude, who was calm and just wanted papers filled.

I thought - this was the most retarded thing today - and then saw your post.
>>
>>9080911
So you decided to one-up it with that post?
At least the post you're replying to provided a justification for their implication.
You just called it retarded without evidence or explanation.

Yours is necessarily more retarded, then.
>>
>>9080979

If you can't understand that 9077134 makes no sense at all - you shouldn't be allowed to breathe, let alone to speak.
>>
>>9081017
Sounds like you're just incapable of explaining yourself. You do realize a formal argument is composed of both a claim, and one or more underlying premises? Surely you can produce at least one sound premise.
>>
>>9081040

Of course :

You are (gender neutral, of course) idiot.
>>
>>9081017
stop playing with the food, will you ?
