How long does it take to polymerize a monomer?
I'm researching industrial processes but can't find any info on the matter.

Depends
How long you want your polymer to be affects its properties and time to make it.
The temperature the reaction takes place at and even the pressure can be factors that have an effect on the rate.
Just go with thirty minutes. Who the fuck knows the right answer to your impossibly vague question

I was researching polymerization for high density polyethylene.
Basically I want to know how much it would take to polymerizate a ton of ethylene.
>asks a quantitative question with a discrete answer
>provides no information about any variables
?
Sheesh what kind of a question is this? So many factors.
If you don't have a recipe you're probs out of luck. I used to work on polyesters and isocyanates, sometimes polyolefins.
For the polyolefins we would slowly add it some few hundred mL over 30 minutes because it had a fast rate of reaction. There's reaction rates tables you can look up too an do some calculations, but I'm not sure how hdpe is differentiated from regular pe. If a certain crystallization is preferred it probably has to have extra time to reach thermodynamic endpoint.
Whenever we ran big batches it would be overnight so I would assume that a 1 ton batch would take at least 4 hours, probably more
