if the wiki is any accurate lorewise, they're designed to be short ranged weapons for indoor cqc.

op specifically mentioned blasters, so i just looked up and assumed handheld weapons. when i meant indoor combat i meant on the infantry level.

the wiki explicitly made a technical distinction between blasters and lasers, going as far to say that lasers are slower to fire, heavier, and more powerful/accurate than a similarly sized blaster. almost all ship mounted energy weaponry is listed as a laser cannon or derivative. a large blaster may have potential for long range space combat, but lasers seem to be preferred.

Meaning it will weaken and start darting "randomly" before it disappears. Although it still might look scary long after it has dissipated enough energy to be effective as a weapon.

Also means range will increase as atmospheric density decreases.
