They say that extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Go figure what that means.

yes, but think about it this way... most of the current accepted theories were at some point marginal and non-mainstream and some of them if not alot of them probably got some degree of skepticism or ridicule, but they worked their way into the mainstream through their merit eventually.
