Hey sci, does anyone know the top systems biology PhD programs in the USA? Looking to go to grad school soon.
UNC
Stanford
U Chicago
Berkely
MIT
Maybe Duke or John's Hopkins
Anything else is meme tier.
What about Stanford's program is great? Not saying it isn't, but I did not like the sound of its curriculum and program as much Berkely and the other UC system schools.

When you graduate, your diploma will say "Stanford" on it and people will be like "wow! This guy is smart!!!"

Who gives a shit.
If the merit of your degree is greater than the merit of your work, you'll never be more than a meme.

Macro or micro?

Precisely! I want to go to institution that gives me the best opportunity at a faculty position. So if anyone is in a systems bio program, and has anything informative to share, I would be really appreciative.

Scripp's Research Institute is pretty high up there, if you can get in.

More than likely micro, but open to either

You won't get a job in acedemia if you don't get a degree from anywhere he listed + the Ivies. Half of tenure track positions come from top 10 or 20 (can't remember which but I presume 20) schools regardless of the school's individual proficiency in the subject.

For better or worse, academics (Biologists included) largely think in memes like "-omics" or "statistical power", and that extends to how they see the field, so they use the prestige of a school as a shortcut/proxy for evaluating whether a postdoc or potential PhD candidate will be worthy of collaborating with them.
Anybody familiar with UCSD/UCI or MIT?
I think I would prefer MIT. Other Ivy's are good too
