hi guys, does this guide really work?

>think global
Is this some kind of indoctrination?
>>

"Think global" is just nonsense memespeak with no substance behind it. It's an essentially meaningless phrase which can bu used to mean literally anything while conjuring up a fuzzy association to fuzzier images of "interconnectedness" and "pluralism"

>muh pale blue dot
>muh we're all more related than not in the sense that we're the only intelligent life we know of on a tiny rock
>muh this is all irrelevant on the cosmic scale
"The cosmic scale" is irrelevant. Any well-defined notion of "significance" presupposes a context, and so is inherently qualified to that context.
>"services"
>"agriculture"
This says less than nothing about socioeconomics. Subsistence farming and first world "industrialized" agricultural professions are more different than they are similar. It gives no insight into the daily lives of people, or even who controls means of production and who does not.
>patchwork quilt
>lol society is a heterogeneous thing comprised of several distinct interlocking parts
Yeah... It's not wrong, but it's trite as hell and, again, tells you less than nothing. Also the metaphor breaks down and becomes flat-out wrong when you try to nontrivially extend it - "these fragments are in harmony, cooperate, are equally significant, and all necessary"
>lol all people have things they are, things they aren't, and things they may or may not be comfortable with
Sounds like something a brainlet who "understands people" would say and come away thinking they've uncovered some profound insight into the human condition, but it's a truly banal heuristic. It's also wrong. There is no fundamentally stable "I" and identity is an inherently mutable thing.
>Maslow's Hierarchy
Shit-tier for many reasons, not least of which being that you don't in any sense need to "fully achieve" the lower ones before "moving up," and that needs on different tiers frequently contradict with each other such that the "lower" one doesn't always necessarily take precedence.
>>
>>9034686
Honestly, the "hierarchy" is saying nothing (halfway defensible) beyond "I'm choosing to call these needs 'higher' than these other ones because they're more abstracted and interrelated with self-concept, 'identity' and higher executive functioning."
As for "step 4 is from above lol focus on the bare basics and happiness will come to you," that's a pretty shit-tier conclusion, but it's still something you could argue, I guess, if you have a raging boner for the Epicureans.
If you actually want to understand aggregate human action and motivation as they relate to history, society, and the satisfaction of needs, Historical Materialism is better in every conceivable way.

It misses out a lot.

Imagine if you will a society where everyone shits in the drinking water and you decide to shit in a latrine instead because if everyone did that things would be less shitty. You might lead by example and convince a few people, but as long as 1 person sprays diarrhea into your drinking water while masturbating all your efforts are for naught.

There is no point being "altruistic", you are basically just tossing your time and money in the trash. Most other people don't share your high minded ideals and even if they do they are likely too incompetent to carry them out. Of course saying this is considered "mean", no one likes being told their flaws, even if fixing said flaws is crucial in order to have the remotest chance of achieving their beloved utopia where everyone works for the "greater good". So demagogues and propagandists never tell that side of the story.

i like the idea of panic -> stretch -> comfort

no that guide doesn't work try getting in a fight it's much more effective

OP is a troll. Also maslov's is great. It gets too much hate. You guys are all fools.

t. Cog sci PhD who has passed through the 5 levels and understands it is a hand wavy tool for looking at somebody's maturity.

>>9034455
This is why self-help is so bullshit. One moment it's trying to tell you you're thinking about too much and you should focus on the little things. The next it's telling you to fucking "think global."

This is why so many self-help movements end in purple drink.
>>
>>9034713
Wrong.
If the government helped everyone would be altruistic since that's the communal human nature.
>>
>>9035189
Wrong.
>communal human nature
Tribalism isn't altruism, anyone outside the tribe is considered a subhuman and to be part of the tribe you must never criticize the demagogues abusing this instinct.

The majority of people are not "good people", any group which represents everyone, like a government, cannot possibly be good. Ironically it is at least a possibility in a dictatorship but of course extremely unlikely. It is ultimately up to the individual to escape the cess pit.

>Also maslov's is great.

No, he is not. Psychological needs are just as important as basic needs. Those are basically mental health while basic needs are physical needs.

Self-fulfillment is too subjective for the description that he gives for it.
