Yo square squad
I need a good software to do some basic maths, algebra and trigo graphs on Linux
Nothing too hardcore just kinematics and thermodynamics
So basically something like a latex notepad that can also be a calculator
Try Octave.

Ok I'll take a look
Do you use it?
From src or pkg?
Does it have to be the latest version?

Fuck off commie.

Yes I've used it for a science article I co-wrote. There's a gui version and a terminal version. I used the gui version and I liked it although it can crash if you input a lot of points for graphing (+1000) at the same times.
It's programmed to be compatible with matlab and the commands are similar. Don't remember if there are plugins for it, there probably are.

wait before you go
what are some good communities online for math & science? a quick glare show it's evident that the people who made the sci wiki are long gone from the board

I honestly have no idea.
Emacs
Tux racer
Gentoo
sage math

Scilab
bump for people interested
Long time GNU/Linux user here.
Graphs are done with GNUplot. It's a very useful little program, used a lot in physics.
Algebra? You mean like an algebra system like mathematica? You can use wxMaxima.
Finally Octave is a general purpose programming language used a lot in Physics/Math. It's equivalent to Matlab.

I guess my original heading was confusing...
What I want is a virtual paper on Linux that I can easily write Latex like syntax|character|symbol on it and it also has the option to solve the equation and draw (just like those highschool calculator we used to plot graphs with)
I'll take a look at all the suite mention here since they're all literally free anyway
