Holy shit.
>>
quantum entanglement =/= FTL communication
>>
>>9030066
>To perform the experiment, the Chinese team created entangled pairs of photons on the ground at a rate of about 4,000 per second. They then beamed one of these photons to the satellite, which passed overhead every day at midnight. They kept the other photon on the ground.
>Finally, they measured the photons on the ground and in orbit to confirm that entanglement was taking place, and that they were able to teleport photons in this way. Over 32 days, they sent millions of photons and found positive results in 911 cases. “We report the first quantum teleportation of independent single-photon qubits from a ground observatory to a low Earth orbit satellite—through an up-link channel— with a distance up to 1400 km,” says the Chinese team.
>So you're wrong, because they don't need to "check" both sets of entangled photons. They create photons with a specific spin, and then "trust" that the qubits are the same when they check them at the destination.
>Once they're sure entanglement is conserved, they "trust" the communicator not to foul the signal/entanglement en route.

Stopped reading there.
If there is anything you should learn it is that the Chinese researchers are always full of absolute shit.
The Chinese are literally incapable of being able to think on their own. They excel at memorization and solving 'book problems' because it requires no creative thought, no ingenuity, no synthesis of knowledge. They literally make up bullshit papers in China, have a circle-jerk of self-citations (bullshit researchers citing other bullshit researchers), just to come across as being on the 'cutting edge' of science. When you actually review one of these papers, you realize that it is all just a bunch of made up data and conclusions, and that the entire thing is worthless.

Not to turn this thread into /pol/ or /his/ but...

I FUCKEN TOLD YOU ALL, AHAHAHAHAHA...

I remember that I have been for years warning that China would become the world's superpower again. China has always been the center of human civilization, through all of History, with its majestic empire and majestic culture. They have invented the compass, gunpowder, they have always been a people of peace, of honor and harmony. China was unified for most of History when Europe only managed to unify a mere ~60 years ago after WW2 with the EU. Only during the Industrial Revolution and the wars of the West against China (imperialism) was when the West thrived through History, (1800s to now), but now things are changing back to their natural stage and I HAVE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR YEARS. Some people claim the West is superior, but Westerners are barbarians who only care about war. Saying West is superior to China for having sacked it for some 100 years is like saying the barbarians were superior to Romans for sacking Rome. China right now has its own space station, the most powerful *AND* second most powerful super computers, and they keep making outstanding achievements day after day. Unfortunately my dumb, uncivilized and babarian Western colleagues won't accept this, and use some cherry picked video of poverty in China as an "argument". Asia, specially India and even more CHINA, have always been the center of human civilization. It comes off as no surprise that China, India, Gulf countries (former wealthy Arab caliphates), SEA (former trading kingdoms), Japan Korea etc are prospering, growing and contributing to humanity, when the West is falling on itself because of crime, stupidity, no strong culture etc. Thank you China for contributing to humanity instead of waging stupid wars like USA or destroying your own society like Europe. WAY TO GO CHINA! YOU ARE GREAT!

Literally just an assblasted gook. Chinese people on the internet are extremely defensive of their country, to the point where they will pretend not be Chinese and make nonsensical arguments in favour of it, just so it looks like the other person is wrong. This is because of the particularly shallow nature of ethnic Chinese, where appearance is more important than depth. This also reflects in their sciences, where they often make outright false claims of accomplishments, and rarely innovate because this requires abstract, deep thought. This is just a rule of thumb

Energy always comes in a form. Massive particles are made out of photons.

What you're saying is equal to saying "some times energy comes in the form of sofas"

>>9030785
Massive particles are a form that energy takes. In some circumstances they will turn into photons, in others they will turn into other massive particles. There isn't much point in saying that photons or any other particle is "the one they're all made of".

Why can't I use that for telecommunications?
>>
>>9031007
You can, and indeed thats how quantum computers are based. The point that I was trying to make is that you cant teleport something through space and time (for now). You are not teleporting anything, you are just propagating a quantum state (bell state)
>>
>>9030089
LMAO, chinese are top of the world on quantum information researches. Get your shit together faggot
>>
>>9031009
so I *can* send information ftl? I've been told I can't even though there's quantum entanglement. I'm from /v/ and low ping time is very relevant to my interests.
>>
>>9031036
Well, you're not sending any information at superluminic speeds really because those two particles are entangled and the measure of one determines the state of another, its like each and every particle have all the information inside as a system but only triggers a part of it when its measured.

I explain myself:

A photon can be in two spin states, 0 and 1. If you entangle that photon with another one in a bell state |S>=sqrt(p1)|00>+sqrt(p2)|11> When you measure the state of the photon that is in the Earth for example, you can get spin state 0 or 1 AND because of the entanglement (spooky action at a distance called so by Einstein) you have determined the state of the second photon in the atmosphere. This is, when the earth photon is in the state 0, the space photon turns out to be in the state 0 because of the colapse of the function wave and mutatis mutandis with 1. In this case you have the same chance to get a 0 or 1 state and so p1=p2=1/sqrt(2)

So you are not sending nothing, not information, you are just measuring the state of a quantum system. All this is related to EPR paradox and Bella inequalities so i encourage yoy to check it out
>>
>>9031116
but if I measure it in a sequence that'd result in a tcp packet, will the entangled photon not also display said packet?

I'm more looking for a yes or no here on instantaneous communication and you fuckers keep giving me math instead. I'm not gonna care about your squirts unless we're playing splatoon.

>>
>>9031119
The answer is no.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No-communication_theorem

When you look at the entangled particle, you only know that the other particle will have the same state as your own particle. This entanglement collapses however as you observe the state. As a result, you can't communicate as the other person doesn't know if you already observed your particle or not.

The truth is that some kind of information may be being transmitted superluminally or the information may be embedded in some way in the entangled particles at the time of entanglement. I'm not sure if either case has been proved experimentally yet.
>>
>>9030069
How does one go about "keeping the other photon on the ground"?

Also, what is the procedure for creating entangled pairs of photons anyway?
>>
>>9032924
Hi, physicist speaking. An entangled pair of photons has ONE wave-function, it's just not spatially continuous. Entanglement expresses that the wave-function is non-separable, i.e. you can't write them as a product.

Probably this, considering they're not making them efficiently.
>SPDC is stimulated by random vacuum fluctuations, and hence the photon pairs are created at random times. The conversion efficiency is very low, on the order of 1 pair per 1012 incoming photons.[2] However, if one half of the pair (the "signal") is detected at any time then its partner (the "idler") is known to be present.

I get the gist of how the entangled photon pairs are made (fire a laser through a crystal, rely on "random vacuum fluctuations" to produce a coupled photon pair), though the wikipedia explanation leaves a lot to be desired (e.g. how and why vacuum fluctuations come into this, seeing as it's basically explained as absorption and emission).

What I don't get is how in the name of fuck they are able to precisely direct one of the photons to hit a fucking satellite while they direct the other photon towards <something>, and also how they even keep the grounded photon from being absorbed, unless they loop it through some fiber cable or some shit.

what if both sides are constantly measuring? I feel like you've attempted to math something out of existence rather than just performing what should be a straight-forward test.

well it isn't superluminal if one considers the entangled particles as residing on the same point in spacetime. Like a very tiny particle wormhole where the space is joined only inside the particle.

I don't know if it's misguided hubris on the behalf of /pol/tards or stealth Chinese posters downplaying this.

But the fact is if you live in the western world you should be fucking terrified China is capable of this.

Even if you don't believe they are capable of pulling of such a feat the fact they are at least ATTEMPTING this and putting resources to do it should be putting you edge.

I've said this other threads and I'll say it here, the Chinese do not give a flying fuck about what you think of them. You can call them drones with no souls who copy and cheat at everything they do. But they gunning for top world power status and are making deals with every country the west has fucked and trampled on.

Do not get complacent in your position. I'm not saying you should fear and hate them but if you care about the west you should not dismiss news like this.

It would be appreciated if you spread your misinformation elsewhere.

I'm glad China is carrying the torch. The west might not be in the position to carry out research in a few decades.

can you know what result you're going to get before you measure?
and how are you going to tell the other end in which sequence the photons are to be measured?

Most of their economical proficiency to do almost any of the shit they do comes from, what is essentially, human suffering through slave labour and trading those good through the US.

Just look at people that live in high altitude zones like in Tibet or the Andes, and do some comparisons.
Also, the fact that "race" isn't considered as a category in taxonomy should make you realize just how stupid you all "racist realists" or whatever the hell it is, are

Sure, this is basic engineering stuff. You make a truth table with all the possible results and there you are.
>tell the other end in which sequence the photons are to be measured.
I'm not, they're going to be measuring at a constant rate, just like me. Then depending on the result we measure again at half intervals for data.

I feel like /sci/ is not trying very hard with protocol development.

How is this different from manic behavior? Why not start by finding what a photon is and how to describe it without violating conservation of energy, Maxwell's equations, Fourier theory and superposition?

Adolf Hitler said in 1936:

Pride in one's own race – and that does not imply contempt for other races – is also a normal and healthy sentiment.

I have never regarded the Chinese or the Japanese as being inferior to ourselves.

They belong to ancient civilizations, and I admit freely that their past history is superior to our own.

They have the right to be proud of their past, just as we have the right to be proud of the civilization to which we belong.

Indeed, I believe the more steadfast the Chinese and the Japanese remain in their pride of race, the easier I shall find it to get on with them.

Not that anon but its actually a pretty solid analogy. To get entangled photons they split them using a type of crystal. Each of the resulting photons has half the frequency and due to conservation of angular momentum each has opposite spin. You can give me your retarded math proofs all day but any reasonable person would come to the conclusion that each entangled photon has the spin that it had since they were split, we just cant know what that spin is until we measure it. From that measurement we can infer that the other photon has the opposite spin.

I heard that Chink parents will even help their kids cheat in high school and college. They don't even care if their kids learn anything it's just about grades and status.
>>
>>9030110
China and North Korea have a disproportionate number of instances of cheating on exams. Standardized tests scores are a poor metric when not everyone is playing by the rules.

Pretty much anyone working in academia looks at publications by Chinese research groups with a high degree of scrutiny. Their research isn't always trash, but there's a lot of refuse to dig through to find legitimate papers with repeatable results.

I don't say this to imply that the Chinese aren't intelligent or suck at doing research, but there's a reason why they're still a country of dislocated peasants slowly dying in polluted rivers and clouds of thick smog. Their culture is one of doing whatever it takes to get ahead in life - whether that be ripping off western intellectual property, cooking dogs alive, harvesting shark fins, providing no assistance to children/adults dying in the street, dumping mass quantities of toxic waste directly into major water sources, making fake cities with vinyl-sticker windows on all of the buildings, etc. China is a pretty fucked up place desu senpai. Except for Hong Kong.
