Do any of you actually do this?
Do what? Get in the zone? Yeah, I'm a programmer and you have to do that shit to be productive. Seems like the guy is saying that you should do a math problem to get in the zone. Ok.

If you don't study math this way you're just wasting time rote memorizing definitions that you'll forget because you have no way to apply them to anything meaningful.

I can understand the purpose of wanting to study a subject in order to understand something interesting, but you still need structure in order to reach that goal.
I have a sitting position that's horrible for my back which makes my math ability increase exponentially, if that counts

Pretty much. The thing is, you would never procrastinate if your procrastination was hurting you.
For example, imagine if you had a shotgun tied to your crotch that was programmed to shoot your balls off in 10 hours and all you have to do to stop it is just remove the shotgun from your crotch. Would you procrastinate? Would you go distract yourself when your balls are on the line? I don't fucking think so.
That is his philosophy. Find something that interests you and then you will find that procrastinating will only feel like you are hurting yourself. Like you are letting that shotgun blow your balls off, so you will just start undoing the shotgun naturally.
An extra tip would be to start watching anime. There are times when you become depressed but when you have the refined and exquisite taste for anime as a connoisseur like me then you will always have a parachute for your ego. Having problems with that math problem and you think that means you are a useless brainlet? No worry, you are still have a refined anime viewer with 10/10 tastes, and no one can take that away from you.

no, my autism is strong enough that I can just sit down and do boring shit for 12h at a time, as long as its in my 'study' time block.

So I have a terrible cycle where I need to be really stressed out to work efficiently and get alot done so I end up doing very little for a long time then when there's little time left I power through everything without stopping, usually going for a few days without rest and little food.
Recently tough I figured out that I can triger the same mood by drinking a little. I believe my productive moods require me to stop overthinking things and running on adrenaline and fumes prevent me from hesitating, I guess removing inhibitions with alcohol acts the same way.
Heroin users never procrastinate shooting up

But the only anime I like are romcoms... pretty sure that isn't "refined taste."
