What fields does one need to learn in order to build and program robots? Compsci? Mech/Elec Engineering? Machine learning?
>>
>>8986853
You got to start building them. When you have a question, find the answer on the internet You will be building experience and learning practical application of devices and structure. Try fail try fail try win capitalize try fail try fail try fail try fail try win capitalize try fail.....ect

Where can i get the materials? What do i need to buy?
>>
>>8986853
I'm going to study robotics in college. Want me to tell you what we'll study in first semester?
>>
>>8986869
Sure.
>>
>>8986868
Just youtube robots and take notes. Boston robotics is a leader

1st sem. : Mathematical analysis, Linear Algebra, Logic and graphs, Algorithms and programming, academic writing
2nd sem.: Mathematical analysis 2 , Physics 1, Differential equations and numerics, C programming, computer architecture
3d sem.: Complex analysis and transformations, Physics 2, Logical systems and processors, Electronic elements and circuits, signals and systems

I wrote down first three, want /sci/ to tell me if it's a meme school, i'm in Czech Republic

Robotics PhD here from a top university. There are generally three parts of the design and building of robots:
>Mechanical
>Electrical
>Programming
The first two deal with how the machine is built and controlled. The third one is pretty much entirely about the control and behaviour. So essentially, you need some knowledge in all three in order to build and program a robot, but usually you will be competent in just once of them and would know the other two well enough to communicate with their respective specialists. By background was in mechatronics (combination of mech and EE, with focus precisely on robots) but then I moved on to compsci. Nowadays I work almost entirely in the field of computer vision, but I often do some work in control and electronics.

Meme. You don't need most of that stuff for robotics and yet some very essential bits are missing.
>>
>>8986883
like what?
>>
>>8986879
From the looks of it, there's plenty of math, physics and programming. Greetings fellow Slav

Hello. Where are you from?
>>
>>8986893
Russia
>>
>>8986884
Too theoretical, nothing about drives or power electronics in general (which are the heart of robotics), little to no mechanics, nothing about embedded systems, nothing about control theory (though that could be considered part of the analysis units).
>>
>>8986900
Yeah I heard a lot about mechanical engineering being a heart of robotics. There a lot of other classes i can choose from for compulsory subjects. I guess i'll take Mechanics and networking(becuase it's cool). There's a lot of electronics later on. Anyway are you successful in your field?
>>
>>8986853
You need a PhD in LEGO EV3 Robotics.

kek also to me it seems like robotics are literally a meme-field. There are not a lot of actual aichievements(apart from DARPA). Not counting idustrial robotics(not much of progress going on in there aswell.
>>
>>8986906
If you want to be successful in robotics, I wouldn't focus on mechanics, despite my previous post. Nowadays, the field is focused almost entirely on control. Building a mechanical system is not easy, but it's not something you do often and it's really simplified by software, e.g. SolidWorks. Take for example the Nao bots. Researchers prefer systems like these because you don't have to bother with the mechanical/electrical design and you can focus on the control instead. It's also easier if research groups were working with the same hardware. If I were you, I would focus on mathematics and a bit of computer science. A lot of my colleagues are mathematicians, physicists, or computer scientists. Just a few are electrical engineers. That's how it is nowadays. We can design an electrical-mechanical system easily, even of high degree of freedom, but we are very bad at controlling it.

Well, LEGO stuff is legit since you need to program heavily and engineer greatly. Don't shy away from the vid due to "lego" and "meme face" shit.

I guess i'll take your advice.
