Case 1: Real sciences (Chemistry and Physics. Some Biology as long as it relates to the other two)

It is not that you need to jump through a bunch of hoops. It is that there is so much knowledge
now that anything you can say is literally elementary garbage and useless if you are not at the cutting edge with the rest of the scientists. Basically, if you are not at the cutting edge you are not worth the time. No one is going to care if you independently rediscover Newton's laws. Literally useless for the rest of us.

And for non-discoveries, the problem is that you have a really distorted and embelished view of science in the past. Now that the dust has settled, you think that scientific publications in the past were all Newton, Lagrange, Gauss, etc. But you would be wrong. Non-discoveries have always been 99.9% of science. Obviously, non-discoveries become non-famous and 100 years in the future no one remembers them. But there they were.

Case 2: Non-sciences (Psychology, sociology, and biology as it relates to these two things)

What did you expect? A degree in psychology is basically a degree in politics as it relates to the human mind. Everything published is fabricated.

You are better off just trying to find a party to beat this boss. This was not meant for solo players...

Completely agree - this is partly due to the celebrity scientists we see now. Real scientists are in the lab doing science, not on TV taking credit for other people's discoveries, mis-representing them while being the "representers" of science.

It is also dangerous that science is seen as the only source of truth - if a scientist says it then it must be true. Science is far more about being unsure of things, but the arrogant types who supposedly represent science aren't doing it for the science but to appear intelligent and to be respected by people who don't really understand what they're saying.
