The gravity of a black hole is so strong gravity can't escape. An ECO, in theory, has an escape velocity almost at c but it never gets there because, to an outside observer, the rate of collapse slows to an infinitesimal rate. The closer a ECO gets to the point of being a black hole, the slower the collapse, from the POV of the outside observer,

If you're referring to virtual particles/Hawking radiation, then yes, the ECO would lose mass and could even expand back outward as long the mass loss is less than the mass gained as with an actual black hole. The only different is that the mass in an ECO is not confined to a singularity.

That article is complete bullshit. The accretion disk of a black hole never goes inside the black hole. Nobody is talking about anything being ejected from the within the Schwarzschild radius. The author is simply lying about standard explanation and is so ignorant they don't even know black hole binaries flare regularly, it's not new. The author is so full of shit that he claims this flaring is unheard of despite there being a paper written in 2006 by the same crackpot about flares.
