I'm told there's some sort of physics thing that makes this happen, but I didn't understand it.
It's a worm, right?
If I am correct then it appears to be an Ebola

its the brita snail. he squirms around and leaves a trail while he's cleaning the water, thats how it works
probably just a floatfly
The 'Brita snail' (helminth drater) is a fairly common worm like organism that feeds on the bacteria in your Brita filter. Don't worry it's harmless and most Brita filters come with dormant eggs that activate when exposed to moisture.
I would recommend putting some concentrated HCl in the filter to give the snailbuddy some nutrients.
just a typical brita snail lol, helps the filter supposedly.
