Thoughts on paying for Bootcamps, and how they compare to majoring in computer science

giant rip off. I learned how how to program in highschool. I'm a graduate student in applied math now and all the highschool level techniques still work.
just learn it yourself, paying out the nose for some "camp" won't make you any better than someone self taught
They are a meme.

They both suck. Learn the stuff on the wikia and make projects.

I'm self-teaching and trying to knock out as many projects as possible before I graduate. I don't want a career in comp-sci (my undergraduate major is geology), I just want the programming/quantitative skills so I can work in planetary science.
I think programming boot-camps are a meme. My rationale is that any "degree" that comes from an institute that isn't at least regionally accredited is worthless. With the right materials and online community, you should be able to obtain a bootcamp-level understanding of coding on your own.
With that in mind, I think you should skip bootcamp, decide what you want to do with programming (this will be your motivation), and learn how to meet that goal. God speed, and let me know if you have any other questions.
Are there bootcamps for shit that isn't just webdev?
