not sure whether /sci/ has had a thread on this yet. viable renewable energy solution or LARP?

lamo
this is trollscience tier

why not viable?

1) you would need geometrically perfect mirrors
2) even mirrors with highest possible efficiency have big looses of reflected light so transport of "compressed light" is not an option
3) any mirrors we can make would melt as soon as stage 2
Just fucking build molten salt plants.

It also does not consider diffraction of a beam.

Go back to /x/ please. There is just too much bullshit going on. For starters the "evaporated silver" tubes are a piss-poor mirror and you will lose all your energy very quickly.

Should probably add that visible light is between 400 nm and 700 nm. Efficiency is not even coming close to anything usable.

It is completely idiotic idea.
It is taking an already existing (and working Idea) and the building around that a giant amount of pseudoscience and retardation to make the already existing idea significantly worse.
Such mirrors are already used to produce electricity, but any remotely sane person should realize that there is ABSOLUTELY no reason to transport light.
You can just create the energy on the spot (by using the mirrors to heat water) and save hundreds of billions in infrastructure, significantly increase efficiency and drastically reduce the losses through transportation.

Even with geometrically perfect mirrors this is impossible as it violates conservation of etendue. Pic fucking related. You can't focus sunlight into a beam because the sun isn't a single point source
