Why is this chemistry textbook better than, let's say, Chemistry: The Central Science? Is there even such a thing as a "fucking great book" undergraduate chemistry book?

Have you tried sucking dick for it? No?
Go suck a dick.

I've never encountered a modern general chemistry textbook worth its price. Then again, I'm not a chemist so...

The book shit and doesn't cover a single topic in enough detail for a first term lecture series. Don't bother.

What would you recommend instead?

Different anon and I never heard of this book. But people usually swear on Clayden for OChem and I think it deserves its reputation. Also Atkins for PChem but I did not benefit from that one, and would not recommend it. For IChem I used the books by Riedel, Bennewies and Hollemanm-Wiberg (I am German so I suppose they might not be all too spread outside of my region).

I am currently an undergrad in the 6th who is going for solid-state chemistry (rather the PC department than Synthesis, my thesis will be on SS NMR) if that matters.
