I've been thinking about this a lot lately. Science and its image is falling apart, and I think a lot more people are guilty than are willing to admit it. Scientists regularly come off as smug and elitist. They insult those whose life plans differ, and then they wonder why these people don't listen to their research findings. It doesn't work that way.

But at the same time, you have Liberals and Conservatives alike who regularly bully and make fun of those who are particularly studious in these disciplines. Then when they need it the most, to back up their political beliefs, they cite science. It's some straight two faced bullshit, and it's no wonder most scientists have that elitism and become ostracized and hateful towards those who don't respect their way of being.

Of course then you have the "pop science" bullshit coming out of the woodworks, and I don't even have to say much about that.
