Take any STEM class. See how math contributed to virtually every technological advancement in anything, ever. That computer you're typing on, that gif you're using, the colors that make up the screen. All of it is created by math. That shit doesn't just magically appear.
>>
Suppose [math]\lim_{m \to \infty} \int_0^1 f(x)\cos{mx}dx[/math] where f is Riemann integrable on [0, 1] walked up to you and slapped your girlfriend's ass. She gets mad and tells you to do something about it. If you knew math, you'd be able to see that this limit is zero so no one slapped your her ass.

All your computer does is math. It does math to talk to other computers. It uses math to interpret messages from these other computers into what pixels should be what color to spell out you're a huge faggot.

An almost incomprehensibly large amount of math was done just to display this text and images.

Suppose someone came up to you and offered to pay you $1 today, $2 tomorrow, $3 the next day, and so on forever. You might think this is a good deal, but if you understand math you will know that he's trying to steal 1/12 of a dollar from you.
>>
Alright, for real tho, say you are at the entrance to a club for groups of automorphisms between subsets of C. Lets say your an automorphism of C\D(0,1) and the bouncer at the entrance says, "hold up little nigga, how I know you actually an automorphism?" If you knew math, you would gain entrance since you can say that your isomorphic to the automorphism group of the punctured unit disk to itself.

No need to convince.

We don't care if math is useful or not. Why do we even ask this question. For me mathematics is an art. I don't need to explain it to anyone why I do it.

>>Convince me that math is useful.

>Do you use a computer?
The computer can only exist because advancements in Physics and importantly mathematics.
Without the predictive qualities of mathematics building a computer is completely impossible.

>Do you live in a house?
Engineering a house requires a lot of mathematics to make certain that it can withstand time and not fall down.

>Do you use electricity?
The theory of electricity makes heavy use of mathematics, to a point where electricity is only useful because of mathematics?

>Do you live in the woods, hundreds of miles away from civilization and never used a a product that you hacen't made yourself from natural resources?
In that case mathematics may be unnecessary to you.

To rephrase the question:

How do I use math in actual, meaningful situations?

The answer most /sci people will give you is some bullshit about technology and engineering, but they miss the core practice of "applied mathematics" -- Abstract Algebra.

Say you have a situation in the humanities, like poor people don't get funding for schools so they dont get training so they dont get jobs so they stay poor.

Your primary (and usually only) tool to analyse this complex system is *narrative analysis*.

Narrativinal analysis is basically logical analysis -- using a human natural language you construct a sequence of events (poor, no edu, no train, no job, breed poor). Maths are several subsets of logical/narrativinal analysis that have certain properties that make them interesting to work with.

The first rule is usually:

You have a *set* and a *function* which is closed on the *set*.

For example:

P = the set of all possible people
edu(p) = the resultant person after applying available education
train(p) = the resultant person after applying training
breed(p) = the resultant person after breeding

Each of these functions are FROM the set of "people" and INTO the set of "people", meaning that they are "closed".

The system from the humanities described above might further restrict it, and say:

Poor = the subset of all people who are poor

we might say that the function edu(p) has (at last) two mutually exclusive subsets -- poor people and non-poor people, where the function edu(p) is closed on the subset of poor people when p is a poor person, and its closed on non-poor people when p is not in poverty.

Eventually, you construct a *generative formal language* that can be used to manipulate these figures in rigorous ways that can be proved. Provability doesn't mean that it accurately describes your real scenario, but that it's logically consistent to itself, which is still substantial win, especially in the humanities.

Once you've written down what you consider a reasonable description of your real-life situation in terms of sets of things and operations/functions/behaviors, you can start suggesting ways that they fit the numbers we're used to.

This is where we get the justification for using statistics, probability, and measurement in the social sciences!

You patch together your real system, using some lossy assumptions, together with some numbers, you have a new tool to analyze your shit.
