So, I was watching a thing about cuttlefish, and the whole 'Cuttlefish use flashing patterns to hypnotise crabs and then eat them' kind of deal came up; but how does the flashing pattern actually hypnotise the crabs? Is it a unique crab-brain thing, or is it just a meme?

oh, and can this sort of thing happen with other animals too?
or people?
Shameless bump
cuttlefish are just nymph mindflayers. They use their psychic abilities to lull the crabs before eating their brains.

I mean, it's more like they give them an epileptic fit by spazzing the fuck out with chromatophores than any sort of eldritch mind control voodoo
I think it's just mesmerizing to a crab because they don't experience it often

So does that mean that if you show a person a pattern that they don't see often; they'll stare at it for longer than other patterns they might be more familiar with?

How else would you explain Pollock gaining fame?

Kek
Although, I don't remember the last time I saw some crabs holding a pretentious cuttlefish exhibition
Stoats hypnotize their prey also.

I don't know if that counts as hypnosis per-say, but it's still a pretty neat tactic.

Why do americans have to try and make nature programs like action movies?

Dim wit is capital to sell to advertisers so idiots are patronized. Intellegence is problematic to the system so emergent properties select it out.
