How long before a manned mission to Mars *really*? Everyone in my family says it's "literally gonna happen next year", but I know how popsci and the media loves to glorify and exaggerate shit.
Whoops wong pic.

stop being so fucking impatient. it will happen.
maybe 2024, maybe 2030s, maybe 2080s.
infact, the further off it is, the better our tech will be when it happens, which will make colonists lives much easier.

It might happen pretty quickly, but it's not going to be next year.
Earliest reasonable possibility would be the next window, in 2020, if people went balls-out and accepted that it's going to be very risky.
2026 seems quite likely, if things proceed according to current plans but with some delay (SpaceX has the clearest plan for a manned Mars landing in 2024 with ITS after a 2022 unmanned test, but already they've slipped a window in their Red Dragon program), and getting it done by 2029 seems very likely.

>in the future we'll have X which will make Y easier so why bother doing it now?
Hmmm
>>8893722
Why do people even want this? Just muh grandeur, muh destiny? Probes and rovers can do just as well as humans can re:experiments, and cost a tiny fraction of what manned missions do.

>mexican kid just saying "todos somos hermanos y hermanas" which simply and literally translates to "we are all brothers and sisters"
>/pol/ will tell you that is exactly the kind of guy that will rape your women and ruin your country
This really makes me think.

If something happens to Earth, then the species can continue on Mars...or something like that.
>>8894086
What? That's what I should be telling you
>>8894082
Mars is a dead fucking rock with nothing on it that aids human survival. Are these people retarded?
>>8893722
Late or optimistically mid 2020s if there's enough incentive.
>>8894055
>muh grandeur destiny
Anything wrong with that? Underage nihilism afflicting you to hard?
>>8894116
I don't know if you've ever been to /pol/, but there are just as many people baiting the right-wingers there. Also you don't know me. I'm not even OP. However, I'm fairly certain the problem /pol/ has with Mexicans isn't that they rape everyone, but that they take jobs. You're thinking of Muslims, and frankly, /pol/ isn't exactly wrong about them.

Can you think of a better planet in our solar system for humans besides Earth and Mars?
