Salvia sucks fucking shit. On a hallucinogen spectrum, from right to left, left being fun vs right being terrifying, it's all the way to 80% right of the spectrum.
Did I use a spectrum right?

Salvia is one of the wildest drugs that exists. Very unique. I used to smoke it in high school before I ever tried cannabis.
It isn't "fun" by any stretch of the imagination. It's kind of unpleasant and horrifying, actually. I kept going back to it just the same.
I believe it only grows in Oaxaca, Mexico naturally. It's one of those things that I wouldn't be surprised if it came from outer space just as mushrooms or tardigrades give a similar impression.

what is even the point of psychedelics if you don't get trapped in thought loops, have your consciousness split into several pieces that hate each other, or at least see visions of meat and bone fractals.

I never had any of that with salvia or dissociatives in general. For me, salvia throws you into an alien world where everything you sense takes on totally new meanings, completely forgoing the old, familiar meanings. Not like a psychedelic experience to me at all.

It's sort of like the ego death that you get on psychedelics (that's the closest comparison) but also much different.
From personal experience, I say this:
NEVER SMOKE SALVIA
It's horrifying to say the least. Take it as a tea if anything.

I developed an anxiety disorder after a Salvia trip. Two years later, I still get sudden existential panic attacks when over stimulated (e.x driving my car).
Absolutely evil.
wtf I love drugs now

All of that is true. But when I split, I immediately got along with myselves quite nicely.
