>0.999999...=1
They can't keep getting away with this.
>>8862579
half of a half is a quarter
you are retarded
>>8862579

Are you guys memeing or am I just a brainlet?
>>8862597
they can and they will, 2 x .99999... = 1.9999... = 1+ .9999... so .9999... better fucking be 1.
>>8862628
surely 2 x 0.999... = 1.888...
Why is this allowed?
>>8862631
You forgot to carry the infinite amount of 1s sir
>>8862642
Because that's a finite precision machine, dumb ass. Obviously, its designed to round to the nearest machine number if you punch in too many decimal places.
>>8862815
machines cant into infinity, fucking AI brainlets.
>>8862579
Isn't that just saying half of 50? Makes sense that it's 25...
>>8862579
How in the fuck can 1/2 = 2/4 when 1 + 2 =/= 2 + 4 ?
This is worse than the fucig 0.99=1 meme.
>>8862852
but it does = 1 if it's infinite 9s
>>8862815
1/3 = 0.333...
1 = 0.333... * 3
1 = 0.999...

If you have 2(two) apples in a box and take out 1(one), you will half of you apples in the box (1) and half of you apples out of the box (1). Notice the amount of apples out of the box (1) is equal to the amount inside the box (1).
This means that 1(one) is half of 2(two).
Now the other case. Suppose now that you have 4(four) apples in the box, and take out 2(two). You will now again have an equal amount of apples inside(2) and outside(2) the box. This means that 2(two) is half of 4(four).
Now, these fractions (the things with two numbers seperated by a '/') are representing the ratio of the number on the left or top to the number on the right or bottom. This means that 1/2 represents "1(one) in 2(two)", or more often called a half. We know from earlier that 2/4 represents a half as well, as 2(two) is half the amount of 4(four). So now it follows that 1/2 = 2/4
You can also view it as an equation, as fractions are pretty much the same thing as dividing. Ask yourself, "how often does the 1(one) fit in the 2(two)?" (hint: 2(two) times). Now ask, "how often does the 2(two) fit in the 4(four)=" (hint: 2(two) times). This also show 1/2 = 2/4
So now you can see that 1/2 equals 2/4, they both represent a half.
Hope I could help, :^)
>>8862631
wrong, even 2 * 0.99 = 1.88 is wrong
multiplying by 0.5 is the same as dividing by 2
0.5 divided in two is 0.25
woah so math

2*.9999... is farther from 2 than .9999 is from 1.

>25 half apples=12.5 whole apples
What seems to be the problem here?
0.5 = 1/2
1/2 * 1/2 = 1/4
This is because you saying you have 1/2 halves. Welcome to elementary school!
>>8864327
Eat lead.
Maths is a spectrum.
>>8864507
There are no bottoms, only tops. They can't make whole apples. They can not equal 12.5.
>>8864764
And if you divide that by two because they're halves you get 12.5 apples.
