Einstein was still a nobody even after he published his revolutionary theory of special relativity in 1905. What rose him to prominence and made him become a household name was the confirming of his findings after the 1919 solar eclipse experimentation.

What did this woman do? She's no Einstein by a long fucking shot. A real Einstein has probably already published his theory and is waiting to gain prominence after some experiment proves his theories. The person most close to this alive today is Peter Higgs. Was a nobody until CERN found the Higgs boson.

I'm just skeptical of a so called scientist who does so much self promotion, having achieved nothing of note.

Do you think journalists just find people like this? No. This woman reached out to journalists to push her story, so that she has more leverage for better positions in her academic career.

Considering how academia works these days, this woman is brilliant from a career perspective. But based on her published work, she isn't very impressive as a scientist.

It's a clickbait piece using hyperbolic language to parade a relatively young woman as "the next Einstein" so much dumber women and milennials on social media can feel good about themselves vicariously. That being said, the only people more pathetic than the target audience for this kind of headline are the people getting angry over it.

She's smart but declaring her "the next Einstein" seems a little premature, doesn't it? Super intelligent autists like this crop up all the time but that doesn't obligate anybody to pat their ass for no reason. Most of them get work in pure maths and are never heard from again. I'll wait until this girl comes up with something to rival the theory of relativity to celebrate.

Sure, maybe Strominger's familiarity of the work led him to include it, and maybe without him the work is omitted. That's speculation. What's obvious is that the paper itself is not a "wow, we'll put it on the fridge!" paper because it was actually scientifically relevant and, in principle, the ideas and work were solely the product of her efforts which is significant.

She went to what is considered by some a top ten high schools in the country for math and science. Poor families don't send their kids to schools like this and you can tell by the video how wealthy her parents are (look at her house in 2006). If she DIDN'T get into schools like Harvard/MIT it would be surprising. It's systemic oppression against actual smart kids, from poor communities, vs rich kids that are given every advtng to succeed. Take a 150 IQ kid from Mississippi that attends a HS that offers one 1-2 AP classes vs a person like her. Who wins in life? She does.

ITT: rich girl with lots of connections makes it. There is really nothing impressive about her story. Anyone could do what she has done with that kind of backing and mentoring. Stories like Grothendieck's are much more impressive. I would also add that she hasn't really accomplished anything of scientific worth yet, she has career achievements, but no significant publications.

I do credit her with being honest though, she doesn't hide the fact that she is rich or has connections, although I suspect she looks at it differently than others would (i.e. its a fact of pride for her, not one of shame that many of her accomplishments were only achieved with significant help from others).

Okay so, let's say I fathered a child. How would I produce a child prodigy like her if I had the money to finance the child's education to the highest extent, i.e. MIT? And I don't believe in the notion "you shouldn't force anything onto a child at a young age". Children become interested in things that they are heavily exposed to from a young age, and in her case, the subject of physics had been exposed to her, piquing her interest in it. This enabled her to develop an understanding of it much quicker than a normal person, since children are basically dry sponges that will quickly soak up new concepts quite rapidly. She's not the next einstein, but if human civilisation is moved forward by advancements in STEM, then it's in our best interest to produce the super smart children that will pave the way for scientific progress.

Way to prove my point. Racism occured naturally in pre-WW2 Germany, only after russian and american influences being forced down their throat does Germany look like it does today.

Same thing with free speech and ideas. When speech and the spread of ideas are not regulated racism and misogynism will occur much more frequently, even thought nothing is actively pushing for these ideas. Muh tolerance and progress, however, always needs a push from higher powers (outlawing certain ideas, or pushing narratives in media) to gain a footing.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacob_Barnett

>Jacob L. "Jake" Barnett (born 1998), is an American physics student[2] who received publicity at the age of 12 based on erroneous[3][4] reports that he had disproved,[5][6] was about to disprove,[7][8][9][10] or had expanded[11][12] Einstein's theory of relativity, that he had developed a novel theory of astrophysics,[13][14] and that he was in line for a Nobel Prize.[15][16][17][18][19] His claimed theories have never been published, nor subjected to expert validation,[20] and all tests of relativity have verified Einstein's theory. After these media appearances, his mother wrote a book about parenting him, and a psychologist wrote a book about child prodigies that featured him.
