Atheism is about interpreting absolutes in a world of uncertainty. You will never ever know anything you observe for sure, so for convenience people start accepting things with only a small possibility of being false as absolute truths. At least they semantically group them together with absolute truths by simplifying the answer to "yes" or "no". The threshold for moving from "maybe" to "yes" varies between individuals, while the observed possibility of god existing also varies greatly based on personal experiences. Ultimately it's possible that an atheist and an agnostic see the existence of god just a probable, but an atheist decides to dub the observed probability as "no".

The important part is what you think inside your head, not what you say. Actually rejecting probability and internalizing the absolute answer you tell to others is where things go wrong.
