You're too late. The NWS has been relying increasingly on computer models to make forecasts, and all human forecasting will be phased out within a decade. I assume there's a similar situation for other weather forecasters.

Meteorology is cool, but like >>8823126 said, everyone uses supercomputers for prediction now. If you learn scientific programming (older languages like FORTRAN and C), you can help build climate and weather models that will be run on massively parallel/HPC systems. These days it's all about making increasingly accurate and longer-term predictive models because individual human forecasting is notoriously unreliable.

I would recommend something like epigenetics, bionformatics, or astrophysics if you want to do something cool. All of those require programming and computing though.

meteo is quite interesting anon
It involves some cool phsysics like fluid mechanics, boundary layer processes, wind friction, solar radiation.
But yeah a lot of it is computer modelling, aka: uncertainty, resolution, time scale, data quality, etc
