Hello /sci/

How do I improve my mathematical communication in general?
I always get anxious about explaining too much or too little.
My teacher in statistics told me "someone like you should be able to read and understand what's going on" another teacher said that "someone with no clue in math should be able to read and understand it", or "explain as if you're explaining it to a toddler".

Any help is appreciated.

When I try to explain math to people that don't know anything about it I try to work from examples involving no actual math but that display mathematical concepts and then collapse it down back into the numbers. Things like Flatland are a good example. Anathem was a book that was pretty good at explaining math to the uninitiated as well.

Also, can anyone proofread my assignment? I have a picture of the question.

Writing something like 'using pythagoras' seems overkill.
It really depends on your audience, but I'd go with what your statistic prof said.
Everybody who does math is lazy, write short sentences and lots of arrows

Hmm, flatland seems very interesting. Reading the wiki now. "A. Square gets visited by A sphere" VERY promising kek

>Step 1: Identify your intended audience.

For homework assignment it should be your classmates that didn't do the assignment. You're free to reference stuff done in class, the assigned book up to the point the class is, or in the prerequisites but not other classes or other books.

My math teacher actually lectured me on using arrows, he said that arrows have a different meaning in math which i'd learn later on in university. Still don't know why.

Sounds reasonable, I actually used to point out every single law and theorem.

Try to be rigorous with it. Only write "->" if you're sure that there's an implication relation between the two lines.

It was a book but I think Carl Sagan did a video about it that is supposed to be pretty good. The actual books is kinda funny with the social structure and stuff and the way that vision would work.

Thanks, I'll ask my teacher if it's allowed

Im checking it out right now. I don't fully understand 3-D yet, hopefully the concept of 4d is not too hard

It doesn't really matter how you explain it, getting through it will depend a lot on the audience. I am a brainlet but I've made it fairly far along so far. It doesn't matter if it's a page full of symbols that are not easily referenced or a wall of text including technical jargon, I will probably not get it from just going through it. An example of a worked problem helps immensely, some practice questions with checkable answers do too. After that it's just going over it on your own and burning it into your brain.

Someone smart enough to matter (non-brainlet) can probably just reinvent all the concepts fairly quickly on their own so just give the gist of it and some pointers.

I agree. Thanks for the insight.

I think the inverse tangent inputs are switched up
