ITT we post our wishes and our prediction of pic related, I'll start:
>I hope he lives and after a few years he finally control the body and lives a semi normal life.
>After transplant he lives in a coma for one day or two and dies :(

>INB4 b-but its a body t-transplant
ok whatever, nobody cares.

How many successful head transplants have this specific medical team performed on animals? Where can I see these animals that are still alive?
>>
>>8803149
Go to China, they are helping this canavero guy, and they claim they made it on a chimp and rats
>>
>>8803149
Well the russians got chimps to survive a few days in the 80s i think
>>
>>8803166
the main challenge is to reattach the spine, thats why they created a new method, but anyways, the immune system will go crazy as fuck
>>
>>8803149
Yea it's really crazy that they haven't even done this procedure on like 10 monkeys or something.

This.
The operation will kill him in days or months there's no doubt about this.
>>
>>8803207
Man, all the crazy shit going on in china must be wonderful.

I bet they are nearing mengele-tier disregard of ethics.

I bet they made some sick human clonations and genetic fuckery
>>
>>8803350
Yeah, I hope some juicy leaks someday
>>
>>8803350
They already used CRISPR to edit viable human embryos, so the next step is letting them be born. I'm so excited to see the rest of the world rage at it

Its a waste of resources if you think about it

that one gets a whole body full of donateable organs

>heart
>lungs
>2 separate kidneys
>liver

The heart/lung/liver/kidneys alone could prolong 5 lives. Just not enough people donate to make this worth it.
>>
>>8803153
>>8803166
Same team of doctors? Where's the link to their papers?
>>
>>8803110
1) the operation will be postponed for technical reasons, and the volunteer guy will die of other causes before the rescheduled date

or

2) the operation will last 20+ hours and the guy will die before it's over.
>>
>>8803394
interesting point.
>>8803455
yeah, but I dont think the guy will die before the operation

Why the fuck would you directly go to humans if you can't even make it work for monkeys.

On March 14, 1970,[5] a group of scientists from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio,[4] led by Robert J. White, a neurosurgeon and a professor of neurological surgery who was inspired by the work of Vladimir Demikhov, performed a highly controversial operation to transplant the head of one monkey onto another's body. The procedure was a success to some extent, with the animal being able to smell, taste, hear, and see the world around it. The operation involved cauterizing arteries and veins carefully while the head was being severed to prevent hypovolemia. Because the nerves were left entirely intact, connecting the brain to a blood supply kept it chemically alive. The animal survived for some time after the operation, even at times attempting to bite some of the staff.[6] In 2001, Dr. White successfully repeated the operation on a monkey.[7]

White later wrote:

What has been accomplished in the animal model – prolonged hypothermic preservation and cephalic transplantation, is fully accomplishable in the human sphere. Whether such dramatic procedures will ever be justified in the human area must wait not only upon the continued advance of medical science but more appropriately the moral and social justification of such procedural undertakings.[8]

They should at least get it to work for animals first. Like where the animal actually lives and doesn't die later from complications. Then move onto human trials. Doing this with zero successes at all, let alone by the people doing it is just an absolute farce and when it fails will tarnish the whole idea.
>>
>>8804025
I dont think they are promising the dude a couple of weeks of being artificially kept alive by tubes and not being able to dk anything except hearing and seeing things to some degree. They are promising him a new functioning body and as long as they didnt achieve that with monkeys they shouldnt go around and Experiment with humans. Its just insane.

Have they done any studies on head transplantation and subsequent CNI + metabolite treatment in the animal studies, or does this treatment modality not work in chips and dogs? One of the above studies took place in the 70s, and iirc, cyclosporin was only discovered late 70s/early 80s, so only form of antirejection available (if they even used any) were steroids and prograf (?).

If there were any studies done, then I have a very small sliver of hope for this man. If not, hes a goner.

It should be illegal and is in most places without successful animal trails and proper oversight.

>Canavero has said the transplant – which would require 80 surgeons and cost tens of millions of dollars if approved – would have a “90 percent plus” chance of success.

>If approved, the procedure would likely take place in China or another country outside of Europe or the United States, The Atlantic reports, as it would not be approved in the Western world.

I swear to fulfill, to the best of my ability and judgment, this covenant:...

I will respect the hard-won scientific gains of those physicians in whose steps I walk, and gladly share such knowledge as is mine with those who are to follow.

I will apply, for the benefit of the sick, all measures which are required, avoiding those twin traps of overtreatment and therapeutic nihilism.

I will remember that there is art to medicine as well as science, and that warmth, sympathy, and understanding may outweigh the surgeon's knife or the chemist's drug.

I will not be ashamed to say "I know not," nor will I fail to call in my colleagues when the skills of another are needed for a patient's recovery.

I will respect the privacy of my patients, for their problems are not disclosed to me that the world may know. Most especially must I tread with care in matters of life and death. Above all, I must not play at God.

I will remember that I do not treat a fever chart, a cancerous growth, but a sick human being, whose illness may affect the person's family and economic stability. My responsibility includes these related problems, if I am to care adequately for the sick.

I will prevent disease whenever I can but I will always look for a path to a cure for all diseases.

I will remember that I remain a member of society, with special obligations to all my fellow human beings, those sound of mind and body as well as the infirm.
If I do not violate this oath, may I enjoy life and art, respected while I live and remembered with affection thereafter. May I always act so as to preserve the finest traditions of my calling and may I long experience the joy of healing those who seek my help.

They're gonna cut really precisely, I've asked in a thread about the height of the cut but I guess nobody knows. Now, theoretically, if you do that there won't be much damage to the nerves themselves. If you basically kill his immune system, like literally zero wbc and keep him in a clean room, maybe get him a bone marrow transplant later on, he can survive. Now a nerve can grow about 1 mm per day. If we assume a really good cut and the surgeon sewing his shit together correctly he might actually have the connections there pretty soon but I'm not sure about how they would be coded in his brain. It would probably be a clusterfuck. I actually have some minor hopes for this.
