Is CFD a meme?

Yes

Yes. A meme with some legitimate applications.
What's that

how come?

Because snake-oil salesmen use it as a selling point rather than an engineering tool. Literally anybody can run CFD, but getting something useful out of it (other than pretty pictures for marketing) is a different matter.

Predicting and analyzing fluid-dynamic behavior, forces, pressures and loads. No physical model is needed, saving cost and allowing greater degree of optimization early in the design process. Since it's all virtually simulated, many challenges and limitations of physical models and testing are avoided. CFD can simulate conditions that are otherwise difficult or impossible to replicate in a controlled environment, such as hypersonic flow or extraordinary Reynolds numbers too small or large to model physically.
Made this for you guys :^)

It looks like a representation of the aerodynamics of a car. The color seems to represent flux density, as in, how much air is passing through that unit of space (more covered or concealed areas are blue, etc).
