When staring at the middle, the missing purple circle becomes green. What's the science behind this?

WHAT IS THIS WIZARDRY

/sci/ isn't ready for that yet

I put my finger on the + and it was still green
op dont make me get the frames
(purple dots disappearing)>(missing dot appearing green)

clever

But the first one actually works
>>8752316
it's a clever trick
there are green pixels in frames 2 and 11 (there are 12 frames)
you've duped me into seeing green by sneakily inserting green images
>>8753511
It would even work without that
The eyes "balance out" the pink that they see by concentrating stronger on it's complement - the color green. Then the pink disappears, and you see the green tone of the grey color stronger than anything else

If you look just off centre you see both the green and the background colour at the same time
