I think you can get away with less sleep by napping.

No, there's not. Uber man is a meme. The benefits of a long sleep don't come to fruition in multiple short sleeps. Humans are MAYBE biphasic, but definitely not multiphasic sleepers. If we were, uber man would've been around for milliniums, not decades.

Most memory consolidation occurs during stage 3 and 4 sleep or during REM cycles. Because of the time necessary to progress to stage 3 (stage 2 is where about 50% of total sleep time is spent), waking up to full alertness 3 times during 6-8 cumulative hours of sleep is MUCH less healthy than getting 6-8 hours straight.
