Hey, /sci/, I'm trying to learn Javascript on my own, but doing so is pretty hard without knowing where to start. I've done a little Java and a little Perl, so I'm not totally new to programming. Anyone know some good resources to get started with? Relatedly, when I finally git gud, are there any related certifications worth testing into?
Hi Anon
Read through this entire book: http://eloquentjavascript.net/
Then move onto a framework like Express and learn stuff like Node.js
Then use that to publish a website
Then you got a job

I learned by coming up with random project ideas and trying to create them from scratch (no libraries, jQuery etc)
Some of the things I made with javascript onely (to give you some ideas):
Basic ascii based poker game
Assembly style scripting compiler
2d top down tile based world generation and exploration using img tag
Basic mathematical manipulatioj from strings (e.d differentiating 3x^2 inputted as a string)
Cant remember all of them but nothing teaches you like continuous failing

this is the better way to learn.
Do not read any books OP until you know how to program by yourself little things.
Give yourself some problem to solve with JAVA and tryhard to do it, get some help on the net. but never copy paste something. it's the lvl1
I learn pyhton by myself, like this
Then I code a little "text rpg" and "the game of life" for lvl2
lvl3 was the naval battle with an AI.
