I hope you're not actually so doom and gloom about this stuff, considering it'll literally change the world.
>>
>>8709274
yeah if only people of money caught wind of this

noooooooooooooooooooooooope

Feels bad man. I know private interests have invested, but there hasn't been a real ROI on it yet because of this scaling issue.

Seriously though, who ever solves these problems are going to become the richest in the world.

Graphene has very good potential as a reinforcing filler for rubber compounds (same with carbon nanotubes). However the processing safety is what is killing it. It's airborne particle size is so small that no safety masks or respirators can effectively filter it, so it is likely to cause lung damage and breathing problems over prolonged use. I've seen people scar the fuck out of their lungs because of fumed silicas, nearly killed them (larger particle size). If we're gunna be using large quantities in manufacting, they gotta figure out how to not kill people first.

fug

I never considered this.

I wish I could freakin use the stuff. It's shown really good development in university studies, but the scale up so far is a nightmare. Maybe they can do it in China with few enough labor laws.

Interesting

If that elephant picture is true, then its already viable and we probably have it as top secret armor.
>>
>>8709334
It's not a solution anytime soon, but imagine having that industry on the moon. Everyone would be vacuum sealed already, and the environmental impact simply doesn't exist.

Graphene is extremely viable. The problem is making it. We can currently only produce very small amounts of it.

desu senpai, once we can produce this shit on a massive scale we're going to look back on the space shuttles that didn't have a graphene coating and think what absolute madmen we must have been.

Same goes for batteries. Especially large batteries for electric cars. Graphene offers better storage and lightning fast recharging.

What makes graphene superior to graphite?

They're technically the same thing right? Same structure and everything?

stronger elecfron delocalisation. think of it like one big benzene ring
>>
>tfw no body armor coated in graphene creating the equivalent of 6 inch steel armor plating

Why live?
