Completed a pure mathematics degree. Published as an undergraduate in math.
Working to transition to study systems/security within CS. Can I still be based doing hardcore Operating Systems security related research?
I'm coming out of the closest as a computer scientist.

no, you can never be "based"

good, now i will just focus on research

Depends what you intend by "security".
But sure there are plenty of abstract hard-core stuff to be done.

math bachelors make the best CS PhDs

you shouldn't thank me, I don't know how good you are
but it's true though, certainly a math BSc helps you more than the shitty "CS" BSc being pushed around. try to learn your algorithms and languages though, there's a cool springer book on graph theory for instance etc etc

yup, studying CLRS for fun and love it. One of my favorite books now.

Well I don't know much about OS, but a huge formal field is about proving certain properties of computer programs. That could certainly apply to OS as well.
You could start looking into semantics (mathematical modelling of a programming language), or abstract interpretation.

excellent, thanks anon

really? CLRS is particularly bad as a self study textbook (or even to lecture on as a first algorithms class). it's more of a reference book, you might want to look into something more comprehensive and suited for a first course

"Based" means you don't give a fuck. But here you are asking if people on 4chan will respect you if you study CS? Lol gtfo
Also get yourself acquainted with coq. It may seem cumbersome as hell at first, but it's actually kind of fun.
