Why do all top British Physics departments look like absolute shit?
Cambridge
Imperial
Oxford
Because they are not designed with the intent pf being pretty I suppose.

I get it but they look so fucking depressing.
Like when you walk to Imperial Physics department you pass Royal College of Music, Royal Albert hall, Imperial School of Mines. All amazing looking buildings and then there is Blackett...
>>8698223
They were built under the guise of utilitarianism.

>they look so fucking depressing
welcome to the uk m8

Most were built during the 60s. Also DAMTP looks pretty comfy.

Most of them were built/expanded in the 60s, when brutalist architecture (i.e. how much concrete do you want fàm?) was popular.

Physicists are overwhelmingly non-aesthetic people. The excuse of "dey err build 60's" doesn't hold up, because many chemistry, biology departments were too, but their normieness led them to rebuild nicer (albiet smaller) departmental buildings.

Appleton Tower.

>other science departments are nicer
Not in my experience. Pic is the Biosciences department at Birmingham, it's actually a lot worse then the physics buildings.

Looks like a fucking warehouse

Universities in general look like shit man. You have a couple fancy modernist buildings which _might_ not look like shit, some ancient ones which have that nice gothic hall appeal on the outside but are absolutely decrepit inside, and the rest are concrete cubes.
Cambridge is building a new physics department, actually. Should be a lot nicer than the old one.
The Cavendish looks like something that should only ever have existed in the Soviet Union.

Looks fine to me.

>Birmingham
I thought we were talking about universities, not polys.

I am obviously referring to the University of Birmingham. Birmingham City uni isn't that bad though, they have research labs 'n stuff now.
