Is it bullshit? Apparently the Chinese are testing it on Tiangong-2 , and the USAF sent up the X-37 with a classified space propulsion test device device.
What's /sci/'s opinion? Surely the Chinese and USAF wouldn't have wasted the money on this if they thought it was bullshit, right?
If it works, what's your theory on how?

dude dark photons lmao

I personally like the quantum vacuum based thrust theory; that the radio waves in the thing are actually bouncing off these particles and introducing some thrust into them before they disappear and miss the back plate of the drive.

It's bullshit, probably some thermal effect like with the pioneer anomaly.
>Surely the Chinese and USAF wouldn't have wasted the money on this if they thought it was bullshit, right?
No not right.
Also what's with this insistence on testing it in space? If it's producing any trust what-so-ever then it'll reproduce it in space. It does nothing to help anyone track down the source of the """thrust""", arguably it does the opposite, since you've now got a less controlled environment.

Hot off the emdrive presses, sci missed this one.

People will be much more willing to put money into finding the source of the thrust if it can be demonstrated to work.
The problem is that it produces so little thrust that it can't move on Earth.
Put it in space, see if you can get it to move. If it works, find out why. If it doesn't work, then it doesn't matter.
Obviously it would be better if it was strong enough to fly off the table and hit the wall of the lab, but it isn't. So the only way to prove it works right now, without just raising further objections, is to put it in space and see what happens. That will be the make or break moment.
>>8678990
It's bullshit until solid evidence is presented.
>>8679654
You've completely missed the point. What anon was saying is:
>Why bother testing it in space. If there is thrust just from some anisotropy in the radiation then it's still going to exist in space and be pushed in the corresponding direction. Putting it in space does not help anyone narrow down the cause of the thrust.
They aren't demonstrating that it works by putting it in space (and the fact you think that it does betrays your bias), all they're showing is that in space any extraneous effects that are on earth are also present in space. Which is completely fucking pointless.

why microwaves and not other waves tho? Gamma, or visible light for that matter...
