Why aren't you making money from poker yet /sci/?

Because the money is crap compared to actual scientific research.

A throwback to that movie where the guy made a bunch of money on poker. I read the book and a few things were different.

1) On average the individuals would make 80-100k a year working full time

2) They only employed asians as it was more believable to have high rollers from foreign countries rather than from within the country

3) They were summarily blacklisted from every single casino within like 5-10 years.

4) It was a large group of individuals who also had a very wealthy person funding them


In reality, an individual will not make money counting cards. For one there are too many decks used now to do it by yourself. It requires an entire team, and even then your chances of being caught and kicked out the first time you try it are very high.

That ship has sailed.

It used to be easy money for smart, disciplined, unprincipled people when poker was trendy and there were tons of idiots lining up to lose their money, but it couldn't have lasted. It attracted too many smart, disciplined, unprincipled people, and even a fair number of the idiots eventually developed competent play skills.

It's not the happy hunting grounds anymore.
